Celebrating David Tatroe Ouren

August 11, 2023

On the morning of July 31, 2023, David Tatroe Ouren died peacefully in his sleep in Reno, Nevada. He was 80 years old.

David is survived by his wife Janet Ouren; his sons, Michael Ouren and John Ouren; his brother Curt Ouren and Curt's son Jeff; and his grandchildren William Ouren and Margaret Ouren. He was preceded in death by his father William Ouren and his mother Theresa Tatroe Ouren

David was born on March 28th, 1943 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1961. He went on to attend Iowa State where he graduated in 1966 with a bachelors of science degree in agronomy.

Dave married his wife Janet of 56 years in 1966 between graduating college and shipping out to basic training. They met as students at Iowa State University. They welcomed John in 1969 and Michael in 1976.

While Dave was not the most serious student, he was quite resilient and quite practical. Upon completing his agronomy degree to help run the family seed business he found out that the business was sold and he was drafted soon after! After hearing that news, he took a nap and woke up resolute and differentiated himself enough to become an officer, tested into Quartermaster OCS and completed three years in the army, discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1969. After the Army, he joined Chevron Chemical Company and from there launched a successful lifelong career at Chevron.

David was a big personality with a warm smile and gregarious nature. He will be remembered by many for his sense of humor and infectious laugh. As a father, Dave was a cheerleader and advocate for his sons. Dave's booming laugh will be missed by family and friends.

No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a celebration of life is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Eddy House, a place of hope and help for at risk and homeless teens (https://eddyhouse.org/ ).
